Inspired by an iconic Persian deck first printed in 1937 by De La Rue & Co., Ltd. in London, Persian Playing Cards – First Edition is a thoughtful reimagining of a historic classic for today’s players and collectors.
Every major element has been redesigned from the ground up. The tuck box features all-new artwork inside and out, while all four Aces, the two Phoenix Joker cards, and every face card—including the Bibi (Queen), Shah (King), and Sarbaz (Jack)—have been carefully illustrated by hand. Larger, clearer pips improve playability without sacrificing the elegance of the original design.
The vintage court cards have been respectfully reinterpreted, and the classic back design has been refined into an intricate composition of gold linework on a rich red background. The typography surrounding the tuck box draws inspiration from the golden reflections of the ancient Persian Akinaka sword, creating a subtle visual motif that continues around all four sides of the box.
Printed by The United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) with its renowned Air-Cushion® Finish, the deck combines professional handling with heirloom-quality craftsmanship. Designed for both gameplay and display, it is equally at home in the hands of magicians, cardists, collectors, and lovers of Persian art and history.
Designed and illustrated by Hoofar Pourzand, the project represents years of historical research, careful restoration, and original artwork. Every illustration was hand-drawn with meticulous attention to detail, combining classical illustration techniques with the precision of technical drafting to preserve the character of the historic deck while giving it a refined contemporary identity.
